Harney Hub Services

Oregon Project Independence
Promote quality of life and independent living among seniors. Provide preventative and long-term care services to eligible individuals to reduce the risk of institutionalization and promote self-determination. Provide services to frail and vulnerable adults who are lacking or have limited access to other long-term care services. Optimize eligible individuals’ personal and community support resources. Goals of this program are obtained by providing authorized in-home services such as home care, home health, respite, home-delivered meals, and information and assistance to individuals determined eligible for the program.

Recreation & Exercise
Harney Hub has a pool room consisting of two pool tables for use during normal business hours. We also have an honors library and comfortable sitting area to enjoy, also during normal business hours.

Bingo is available on Thursdays at 2:30 p.m.

Tai Chi is offered every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.

 

Congregate Meal Site

Meals at the Harney Hub are served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday (excluding holidays). Reservations are not necessary. For persons 60+ the suggested donation is $5. For those under 60, the cost of the meal is $10.

Meal tickets are available for purchase at the front office or at the registration table on meal days. For 10 meals, the cost of the ticket is $50 for those 60+ and $100 for those under 60.

 
Grab & Go Meals
Meals days are Tuesday and Thursday (excluding holidays). Meals include the main dish, sides, and dessert and are served ready to eat.  There is a suggested $5 donation for those 60+. Those 59 and younger will be required to pay $10 for each meal ordered. On Tuesdays, a large or small salad of the day, roll, and dessert are available for additional purchase ($6 and $10). On Thursdays, a large container of soup (cold) and rolls are also available to purchase ($6) for additional meals through the weekend.

 
Harney County Food Pantry
The Harney County Food Pantry is open Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to serve the community with needed foods to supplement your pantry.

 

Transit

Harney Hub Transit is a demand response and deviated fixed route service that provides transportation to people of all ages.  We share many of our signed bus stops with the Burns Paiute Tribe Transportation Service, which also runs a deviated fixed route system. The Harney Hub Transit hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.  This countywide service prioritizes demand responsive trips within a 10-mile radius of Burns and Hines.  This service also travels to Bend, OR once a week to provide trips for medical services, to the Redmond, OR airport, and other services (as needed). The scheduled trip to Bend is free of charge. 

 
Housing Programs offered at Harney Hub by Community in Action of Harney County
Foreclosure Intervention & Counseling: This FREE counseling is for families and individuals who anticipate having trouble making their mortgage payments and/or those who are already in default.  We cover all the options that are available to households who are in need of assistance by explaining how individuals can work with their loan servicer; the basics of loan modifications; Oregon’s foreclosure regulations and timeline; what is a short-sale and deed-in-lieu; the ins and outs of the federal “Making Home Affordable” plan; and how to avoid foreclosure scams.  Don’t hesitate and get farther behind in your payments.  Take advantage of this free service and come in today! Rental Assistance:  We have some rental assistance available for people who are homeless or are at risk of becoming homeless.  Please call to arrange an appointment to pick up a request for housing help packet.
 
Residential Rehabilitation: This program has funds to pay for necessary and eligible home repairs such as foundation work, electrical and plumbing upgrade, dry rot and structural repair, heating system upgrade, roof repair or replacement, siding, handicapped accessibility, painting, and weatherization.  Please contact our partners at Community in Action at 541-889-9555 for program details.
 
Harney County Veterans Affairs
The Veterans’ Service Office assists veterans’ and their dependents with submitting claims to the Veterans Administration for several benefit programs related to disability including Service Connected Disability Compensation, Non-Service Connected Pensions, Widows Pensions, Dependency and Indemnity Compensation, burial benefits, medical benefits, home loans, vocational rehabilitation, clothing allowance, adapted equipment applications, and Home Improvement for Handicapped Adaptability and Remodeling. Veterans can obtain help in completing the necessary paperwork by coming to the Harney County Senior and Community Services Center. The Harney County Veterans’ Office can make outreach appointments to veterans in other areas of the County. Learn more online at:

 
Senior Health Insurance Benefits Assistance (SHIBA)
The Senior Health Insurance Benefits Assistance program uses trained volunteers to help people with Medicare make health insurance decisions. This free program saves Medicare beneficiaries money by making sure they receive all possible benefits and don’t pay too much out of their own pockets. SHIBA volunteers are available by appointment at the Harney Hub every Tuesday from 10 a.m. to noon. During Medicare open enrollment (October 15- December 7), SHIBA volunteers are available by appointment from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday and Thursday. Call 541-573-6024 for appointments.

Walk With Ease is a free program designed to help those with arthritis better manage their pain, but it is also ideal for anyone who wants to make walking a habit! Harney District Hospital (HDH) and HDH Physical Therapy team up to offer this six-week course twice a year in partnership with Burns High School.
