Dr. Kevin Johnston's collection honors the history of the medical profession.

PICTURED LEFT: Dr. Kevin Johnston donated his collection of historical medical books and photographs to Harney District Hospital to be displayed in the hospital's lobby (behind the Security Department's desk). Dr. Johnston's collection pays homage to the history of the profession, as each new generation of healthcare providers builds upon the knowledge and expertise of the past. His collection also honors contributions made by local philanthropists toward healthcare in Harney County — including Ramona Bishop and Wilfred and Goldie Racine.

PICTURED RIGHT: A photo of Dr. Johnston in the early days of his career looking similar to the 'Country Doctor' that's pictured in the photographs that he donated. The 'Country Doctor' photographs are a reproduction of W. Eugene Smith's landmark photo essay, which was published in a 1948 edition of LIFE magazine. The photo essay — which chronicled the daily challenges faced by a general practitioner named Dr. Ernest Ceriani in Kremmling, Colorado — inspired Dr. Johnston to practice rural medicine.
