YouthLine is a peer-to-peer youth crisis and support service provided by Lines for Life—a non-profit dedicated to preventing substance abuse and suicide. YouthLine operates a national help, support, and crisis line that provides crisis support and referrals via call, text, and chat. The YouthLine is answered by teen volunteers and young adult interns daily from 4 p.m. -10 p.m. Pacific Time (and by adults at all other times).

Did you know that March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month? We'd like to take this opportunity to emphasize the importance of routine screening.

According to the National Cancer Institute, colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer worldwide and the second leading cause of cancer death in the United States (when numbers for men and women are combined). However, it is also one of the most preventable types of cancer. Colorectal cancer screening is essential, can be lifesaving, and should not be delayed!

— What is colorectal cancer? —
Colorectal cancer starts in the colon or the rectum, which make up the large intestine (or large bowel) and are part of the digestive system.

Most colorectal cancers start as a growth, called a polyp, on the inner lining of the colon or rectum. Over time, some polyps can turn into cancer.

— Get screened! —
Screening tests can find polyps, so they can be removed before turning into cancer. Screening also helps find colorectal cancer at an early stage, when treatment works best.

Several screening tests can be used to find polyps or colorectal cancer, including some that you can do at home. Each test has advantages and disadvantages.

If you're 45 years old or older, talk to your doctor about screening. If you think you may be at increased risk for colorectal cancer, speak with your doctor about when to begin screening, which test is right for you, and how often to get tested.
