26 Apr Community Health Needs Assessment report available
The Harney County Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) is available online and in hard copy to any interested member of the public.
The assessment, conducted during the first half of 2016, was a collaborative effort by Harney District Hospital (HDH) and the Harney County Health Department. It involved a community survey, as well as an analysis of other available data, with the goal of identifying the most pressing health needs and concerns for Harney County.
Top health concerns identified included obesity, diabetes, chronic illness, substance and drug use and abuse, and depression or mental illness.
Taking in mind those concerns and others, HDH developed an implementation plan to address them and begin to work toward creating a healthier Harney County. Plans include everything from prevention programs for youth, to offering more cancer screenings, to redesigning HDH’s website for easier access.
The Community Health Action Team (CHAT) serves as the implementation committee for the CHNA. It meets on the last Wednesday of every month, 3-4 p.m. at HDH. The purpose of the group is to discuss, coordinate, implement and monitor projects that fulfill the implementation plan derived from our CHNA, or that support any other population health goals for our community. Community members are welcome to join or observe the group at any meeting.
