Harney District Hospital (HDH) was built with federal funds in 1950. Since that time, medical care has changed a great deal, not just in terms of technology, but also in the way services are provided. Following a five year process of hospital administrative discussions, community meetings, exhaustive financial applications and contractor planning, the Hospital District Board and Administration voted to proceed with plans for a new facility in 2004. As a Critical Access Facility, HDH was entitled to receive Medicare reimbursement for approximately 70% of hospital construction costs. Additional financing was secured from loan packages with USDA and local banks. No taxpayer moneys were needed to bring the project to completion. After all the i's were dotted and the t's were crossed, HDH broke ground on the new facility February 16, 2006.
Within days, Skanska USA began preparing the site for construction. The hospital opened it's doors to provide services to the community on June 14, 2007 and final construction projects were completed in February 2008. Now Harney County enjoys a modern facility, built to keep pace with first-rate healthcare providers and the communities medical needs. |
